Uncommon Bostonian Will Be Moving Soon
I've been informed by AOL Journals that I am able to move this blog and my other one, Outside In, to another location. I'll be making the move soon.
Btw, former WBZ sports anchor Bob Lobel has been auditioning to be Dale Dorman's replacement on the morning drive at WODS-FM. Such drama!

AOL Journals is shutting down at the end of the month. I need to find a new home. Should it be WordPress or Blogspot? Any other options out there?
Btw, Dale Dorman is on the weekends at WODS. At least, he bounced back.

Dale Dorman Out of Oldies 103
Uncle Dale Did His Last Morning Show at WODS Last Friday
Rumors have been running rampant over the Internet about Boston Disc Jockey Dale Dorman being fired from the morning show at WODS. Boston Radio Watch has declared yesterday that Dale indeed has signed off from WODS-FM last Friday.
Dorman has been a legend in the Boston Radio Market for the last 40 years. He first came to Boston in 1968 to host the morning show at WRKO-AM. That gig lasted 10 years. After two years at WVBF, Dorman became the afternoon host at KISS 108 for the next 23 years. In September 2003, he joined WODS to become their new morning disc jockey.
I'll miss listening to him in the morning. I wonder who'll be his successor.

Those Two Conventions are Finally Over!
Convention Time Over. Real Campaigning Begins!
So we finally know for certain who's running against whom between now and November 4. One of them has a Tina Fey clone as his VP choice. How strange!
Things will be historic and interesting for the next two months. That's for certain. I liked Barack Obama's speech better than everyone else's. Hillary looked good too, and so did her husband, Bill.
The polls are even. What's going on here? Why no front runner? Are the Undecideds that uncertain to make up their minds? What exactly are they waiting for?
Voters should vote for their heart's desire and not vote out of fear. Maybe, the undecided voters hate both candidates completely. Maybe, they are acting like spoiled brats who are used to getting everything they want or else they will hold their breath until they turn blue.
Whatever the reason. Please, get out there and vote on Election Day with your heart's desire. Don't let anger or fear rule your decision making at all.

Bill Murray Takes a Flying Leap!
SNL Vet Takes One Giant Step for Chicago!
Last Friday, "Saturday Night Live" veteran and movie star Bill Murray did a parachute jump to kick off the 50th annual Chicago Air and Water Show. A native of Illinois, Murray gladly took a leap out of a C-31 Fokker with help from the Army Golden Knights Parachute Team.
He landed safely on a beach next to Lake Michigan. He fell 13,500 feet.

The Revenge of Paris The Socialite
Paris Hilton Strikes Back after John McCain Uses Her in His Ad
After presidential candidate John McCain used her image in a campaign ad to mock Barack Obama, Paris Hilton is getting even with her own ad. She makes fun of McCain's age and shows that she is running for President. She says that she plans to paint the White House pink.
Her tagline at the end of the ad: "I'm Paris Hilton and I approve this message because I think it's totally hot!"
McCain's spokesman said that Paris' energy proposal was more realistic than Obama's.

Curse of The Dark Knight?
Is There a Curse on The New Batman Movie?
Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman is in good spirits after having surgery on his left arm Monday night. The actor who is starring in the movie, The Dark Knight which is currently in movie theaters, was in a horrific car accident Sunday night with a friend. He injured his left arm and shoulder. The surgery was to help him recover from his injury.
Freeman is the fourth person connected to the new Batman movie to have a tragedy befall him. A stunt coordinator was killed during the filming of a stunt crash. Then, actor Heath Ledger who played The Joker died of an accidental overdose back in January this year. Last month during opening weekend for the movie, Dark Knight star Christian Bale (Batman) was arrested for hitting his mother and older sister in a family dispute over money. He returns to court next month in England.
People are wondering there is a curse on this movie.
I wonder if Gary Oldman (Commissioner Gordon) and Michael Caine (Alfred the butler) are doing okay.
Meanwhile, The Dark Knight is close to making $400 million in Box Office receipts.

Who is Clark Rockefeller?
Authorities Wonder Who He Really Is
The child kidnapper Clark Rockefeller (or whatever his real name is) was returned to Boston after being arrested on Saturday in Baltimore. Rockefeller had abducted his 7-year-old daughter on July 27 in the Back Bay area of Boston and traveled to Baltimore, Maryland, where he lived near a marina where he had his own catamaran docked. He was using the name of "Chip" Smith. The FBI lured him away from his daughter by telling him that his boat was taking on water.
After the arrest, no one has been able find anything that is attached to his real identity. He has been using different names for years. There was no record of his marriage license.
There is a report that he might be linked to a murder in California.
Stay Tuned.

Marzilli Indicted for Alleged Assaults against 4 Women
Indictment for Mass State Senator who Allegedly Went After 4 Women in One Day
State Senator James Marzilli of Arlington, Massachusetts, was indicted today for allegedly assaulting four women in Lowell on June 3. The charges were indecent assault and battery, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. His arraignment will happen next week, although it hasn't been officially scheduled.
Marzilli, 50, has decided not to seek another term in office this fall but will remain at his post until the end of his term. After a few days after his arrest on June 3, Marzilli did check himself in at McLean Hospital, a psychiatric hospital in Belmont.
His behavior was disturbing on that day when he went after those women. Is he a pervert or a very mentally disturbed man?
Something to ponder.

Pregnancy Pact: A New Trend for Teenaged Girls?
17 High School Girls in Gloucester, Massachusetts, Allegedly Made a Pack to Get Pregnant Together.
At least 17 girls at the Gloucester High School have reputedly made a "pregnancy pack." They happened to be very determined to get pregnant because one was willing to have sex with a homeless man. They often visited the nurse's office for pregnancy tests. They were very happy to learn that they were pregnant. All of them are at least 16-years-old or younger.
This is very disturbing. Did the girls know what they were getting themselves and the ones they had sex with into? Of course, they would get support from their high school and parents, but being a parent is a very serious responsibility. It shouldn't be taken lightly. It doesn't look like they did their homework about being a parent is really like.
Why didn't their parents and teachers suspect that something was going on? Is everyone in Gloucester too busy with other things than teaching their teenagers how to make the right decision on something very life altering? Sure, baby showers are fun parties, but afterwards things are serious. Did those girls suspect that their parents would be upset if they were reckless enough to get pregnant?
Pray for the unborn babies. It appears that they are the ones who are going to suffer the most from irresponsible mothers and absent fathers.

The Incredible Hulk Smashes Out $55 Million!
Debut Weekend Incredible $55 Million for "The Incredible Hulk" Movie
The Marvel movie studio people are smiling happily because the brand new Hulk movie called The Incredible Hulk debuted at number 1 for box office receipts. The full total was $55.4 million dollars. The new movie stars Edward Norton as Bruce Banner a.k.a The Hulk. It is not a sequel for The Hulk which came out a few years ago which disappointed the target audience: the comic book fans.
I didn't have time to go see this film because Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers were in town with Steve Winwood. Also, Marty Balin of Jefferson Airplane/Starship and the rock band America were in town. I just couldn't miss them.
I plan on seeing this soon and will give my opinion on this.

HEATWAVE!
Record Temperatures in Massachusetts and Rhode Island
For the third day in the row, Boston has experienced 90 degree weather. It makes the requirement for a heatwave. The temperature hit the 90 degree mark at 11 a.m.
Worcester and Providence, Rhode Island, managed hit record temperatures today. 92 for Worcester and 97 for Providence. Boston was only one degree short of breaking the 1984 record of 96 degrees.
More heat tomorrow as it goes into the 90s again.
Stay cool, Everyone! It should end by Wednesday. I hope the weather people are right on this one.

Hillary Endorses Barack
Senator Hillary Clinton Suspends Her Campaign And Endorses Obama
It was a long, hard road she endured. Despite her herculean efforts, New York Senator and former First Lady Hillary Clinton ended her bid for the White House and urged the 18 million people who voted for her to support Illinois Senator Barack Obama as he now takes on Arizona Senator John McClain. In her 28 minute speech, she told her supporters to look at the political and cultural milestones she and Obama made even though she wasn't able to win the Democratic nomination. Last Tuesday, Barack Obama won the 2,118 delegates needed for nomination.
I am sad that Hillary wasn't able to pull off winning the nomination, but she has inspired women everywhere to pursue their goals with sheer determination. In that regard, Hillary is a winner. True, she did make mistakes. The one about the sniper fire was a big one. The fact that Hillary is a woman is why some came down hard on her and were not forgiving for putting her foot in her mouth many time. A sharp contrast when her husband, former President Bill Clinton, ran for President in 1992. Remember the "I didn't inhale" remark?
Yet, there are those who irrationally hate Hillary. They couldn't get over the fact that she was a different First Lady than her predecessors. Of course, there are the misogynists out there too.
You did good, Hillary. You go, Girl!

Bravo, Van Halen!
Van Halen Tour Grosses over $93 Million
Despite the naysayers who said that they couldn't last a whole tour, Van Halen completed their reunion tour last night in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The tour started in the fall of 2007 which was a late start from the date they originally planned on because Eddie Van Halen had to go to rehab back in the spring of 2007. Then in March 2008, the dates of the tour had to be postponed when Eddie was being treated for an undisclosed illness.
Regardless, Van Halen managed to finish their tour. The latest incarnation of the band consists for three original members (Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen, and David Lee Roth) and one new member (Wolfgang Van Halen, Eddie's son). The band earned $93 million; the biggest money making tour of their career.
Congrats, Van Halen!

Death on the D Line of the T
Trolley Crash Takes the Life of Female Green Line Trolley Operator in Newton
Two Green Line Trolleys were involved in a fatal accident that took the life of the operator of the second trolley. Witnesses said that the second trolley crashed behind the first trolley as it was beginning to move towards Woodland Station in Newton, Massachusetts. Federal investigators are looking into the matter to find out what caused the crash.
Operator Terrese Edmonds had been driving trolleys since last October. She was hired only 10 months ago. She was 24 years old. It took several hours for rescue crews to remove her body from the wreckage. Several passengers on the trolleys were sent to Newton-Wellesley Hospital for their cuts and bruises before being released. Fortunately, none of their injuries were life-threatening.
How did this happen? It sounds scary because many use the D line everyday.

Bill Plays "I Accuse!"
Former President Bill Clinton Alleges that There's a Cover Up
Bill Clinton, the former President of the United States and Husband of Senator Hillary Clinton, believes that there are some who are pressuring and bullying superdelegates to prematurely make up their minds. He also believes that the Democrats will lose in November if Hillary is not the nominee.
He also cites that they are covering up the fact that she has the chance to win important states in the general election. He mentions that the media is showing a lot of disrespect towards her since the Iowa Caucuses. Also, he says that the media is trying to get Hillary to say uncle and drop out of the race.
Bill said this recently while campaigning in South Dakota on Sunday.

Hillary Errs Again with RFK Remark
Media in an Uproar over Hillary's RFK Assassination Remark
New York Senator Hillary Clinton had to apologize to her opponent, Barack Obama, for mentioning the RFK assassination. Since she said so close to the 40th anniversary, the media jumped on it. Right now, Hillary is struggling to stay in the Presidential race until a Democratic nominee is selected. Obviously, the strain is showing.
It's been a rough week because Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. Very upsetting for everyone all around the world. Here in Boston, they have been talking about the Kennedy family and the political legacy. Hillary has been thinking about the tragedies that have afflicted that family for many years. Too much because it's making her blunder even more. It's not making her look good in the media's eyes, and they are doing their best to make her look bad.
Hang in there until the end, Hillary! I'm not offended by this latest gaffe. Apparently, Barack Obama isn't offended either.

Live from New York, It's John McCain
The Republican Presidential Candidate Shows Up on "Saturday Night Live" with Old Age Jokes
No big surprise here! Like Democratic Senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, Republican Senator John McCain made a guest appearance on "Saturday Night Live" last night during their season finale. McCain, who is also running for president, made jokes about his age. The senator is 71 years old.
McCain once hosted the NBC show back in 2002.

Senator Ted Kennedy Hospitalized
Senior Massachusetts Senator in Mass General Hospital after Having a Seizure
Yesterday morning at his Hyannis Port home, Senator Ted Kennedy was experiencing something that looked like a stroke and was immediately taken to Cape Cod Hospital. Soon, he was airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. His doctor has determined that it was a seizure. Kennedy is listed under serious condition at the hospital, but it is not life-threatening.
Last October, Kennedy underwent surgery to clear blockage for an artery in order to prevent strokes and seizures.
Yesterday afternoon, the senator was talking and making jokes with his family members and visitors at his hospital room. He even watched the Red Sox game. He will be staying there for the next few days to determine what caused the seizure. The senator is 76 years old. The last time he was in a hospital in serious condition was more than 40 years ago when he was in a plane crash that killed two people.
Meanwhile on Cape Cod, the Best Buddies charity event went on as scheduled without the senator who was going to host a clambake after the event.
All three presidential candidates issued statements of sympathy to Kennedy and his family.
Get well soon, Senator Ted.

Keep Going Hillary!
Why I Want Hillary Clinton to Keep on Campaigning
Count me in as one of those people who want to see Hillary Clinton continue her campaign for President of the United States. She is making history, regardless of the fact that is very doubtful she will win the Democratic nomination. Barack Obama needs to learn how to be electable in the major election in November. I would like to see in the remaining primaries how many people will vote for her. It doesn't matter at this point if she wins all the next primaries up to June 3.
Hillary is making progress for the future. She opening up doors of opportunities for many people to go out there and vote.
Stay in there, Hillary!

Iron Man Beats Speed Racer
Shellhead outraces Speed in Movie Box Office Race.
It looks like Iron Man is still invincible at the box office. The movie about the Marvel Comics armored superhero came in at first place in box office receipts. Meanwhile, the CGI loaded Speed Racer finished in a distant second (Oh, Speed!).
That's too bad. The Speed Racer movie was very enjoyable for this old fan of the 1960s cartoon Show. My adrenalin was still high when the movie ended after I saw it on Friday night. I didn't get that same high intensity effect when I just saw Iron Man the week before.
I admit that the CGI and other special effects were a little bit too much, but overall I had a good time watching Speed Racer. I didn't see any other problems with the movie at all.
I recommend this movie because it's exciting.

Hillary Gets Indiana!
The State, not Dr. Jones (Harrison Ford)
Two states had their Democratic primaries tonight: Indiana and North Carolina. Hillary won Indiana while Barack Obama won North Carolina. The race for the nomination is still tight.
It's starting to look like the 2000 Presidential Race after Election Day when no one could figure out who got elected President. That really dragged on for weeks.
It sounds like this will drag on until the convention.

Iron Man Invincible at the Box Office
Wins the Box Office Totals over the Weekend. $101 million!
I saw the Iron Man movie last night and enjoyed myself. Robert Downey Jr. was great at the dual role of Tony Stark/Iron Man. Terrance Howard was outstanding as James Rhodes (Rhodey). Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts was excellent as well. Even Jeff Bridges as Obidiah Stane was perfect casting. The movie was flawless.
According to the New York Times newspaper, the movie won first place at the box office this weekend.
Congrats, Shellhead!

The Return of Barry Allen, the 2nd Flash
The Flash that heralded in the Silver Age of Comics Races Back From the Dead!
I've waited 23 years for this. DC Comics is bringing back Barry Allen a.k.a. the second Flash from the dead. He'll be up and running in the last panel of the upcoming DC Universe ---0 special. He was originally killed off in 1985 during The Crises of Infinite Earths.
Grant Morrison and Geoff Johns are the ones behind the resurrection that many comic book fans have been waiting for!

Barbie, Batman, Spider-Man, and Harry Potter Vs. Iran
Iran Official Slams the Smuggling of Toys and Dolls into the Country
Batman, Barbie, Spider-Man, and Harry Potter toys, dolls, and video games are not welcomed in Iran. One Iran Official declared that they are destructive culturally and a social danger. He said this in reaction to the fact that these items are being smuggled into Iran.
For the past six years, Tehran has launched an unsuccessful campaign to confiscate Barbie dolls. However, Barbie is still coming into the country via smuggling.
You go, Girl! Say "Hi" to Batman, Spidey, and Harry for me

The Curious Case of the Channel 7 General Manager
Was it too much stress or the wrong medication for the TV executive?
The general manager of WHDH Channel 7 in Boston, Massachusetts, ended up getting arrested last Sunday at Logan airport for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest that included striking a police officer. Randi Goldkank is now on administrative leave for medical reasons while she is facing a court date next month.
What happened to her? Just a month ago, she was at Emerson College for a lecture about journalism. She encouraged students to look into pursuing careers in that field. None of the hosts of the event nor the students detected anything wrong with her.
Was it too much stress? She had just become the general manager of Channel 7 in Boston as of last July. Previously, she worked as a sales executive for the company that owes the station and its Miami sister station. Was it because she was too young for the job? She is only 40 years old. Traditionally, general managers are older and more experienced.
There were reports that she had been drinking alcohol during her flight and she had just recently started taking an antidepressant called Lexapro. Mixing alcohol with your medication is not a good idea and has serious consequences, and that looks like what's happened to her.
Good luck with your recovery, Randi!

The Hill Takes The Penn
NY Senator Clinton Wins Another Big State: Pennsylvania
Congrats to Senator Hillary Clinton for winning the Pennsylvania Primary on Tuesday night. She beat Barak Obama by 10 points and received up 10 million dollars in donations. Now, it's onto Indiana and North Carolina. Those two states are having their primaries in less than two weeks.
It's a tough battle for Hillary because Barack Obama is still holding a lead in delegates and winning the most primaries. I'm hanging in there with Hillary because she is tough and that is a feminine trait. When I endorse someone, which I did back in February just before Super Tuesday, I stick with him/her.

Forgiveness of Bill Buckner Controversy
Let this be the final word about those people who still won't forgive Bill Buckner.
I know I'm late in writing about this, but last week was hectic with the folding of the Boston Now newspaper and the shutdown of their website. I found it disturbing that WBZ-TV's John Keller and one of the sports bloggers at the late Boston Now newspaper were not going to forgive Bill Buckner for letting that baseball roll pass his glove and in between his feet at that World Series game in 1986. They are both aware that the Red Sox baseball team has won two World Series since 1986. The most recent win being just last October.
I was never mad at Buckner because I'm not a baseball fan (I'm not into any type of sports). The media has exploited that video clip of him too many times. They fueled that anger towards him placing the blame of the Red Sox losing that World Series on him. I don't know why the media did that. I happen to be a news addict and always when I was watching the sports segment of a newscast during baseball season I would always see Bill Buchner's famous mistake on the baseball field. The media certainly made him a celebrity with that video.
Two weeks ago, Buckner was invited to throw the first ball on Opening Day at Fenway Park. He got a standing ovation and it looked like all was forgiven, but John Keller, the WBZ political analyst, said that evening that he wouldn't forgive him. Many people disagreed with him, including one of the WBZ sports staff. In the Boston Now newspaper, a 16-year-old female sports blogger for the paper wouldn't forgive Buckner because he broke her daddy's heart who was at that World Series game in 1986. I can understand that she didn't like seeing her daddy get hurt, but her daddy is setting a bad example. Her last blog said that she would think about forgiveness although she can't forget that Buckner hurt her daddy's feelings. She described herself as a "Daddy's Girl."
I'm a "Daddy's Girl" too, but my daddy isn't a baseball fan. He once called baseball as "boring as cricket." My daddy played cricket while he was growing up in Antigua in the Carribean. He tried to like baseball and did watch games. He remembers the Washington Senators baseball team (I'm originally from Washington, DC).
One time while he and my mother were visiting me here inBoston in 1989, we watched Bob Lobel doing the WBZ sports news segment which included video clips of past Red Sox players. Daddy told me that the only memorable Red Sox player was Yastrzemski. I told him that Yaz retired a few years ago.
Then, that famous film clip appeared on screen. I pointed at my TV set and told my daddy, "That's Bill Buckner!" Now, my daddy remembers two Red Sox players.
My daddy is a big football fan. I never saw him get mad at any of the Redskins. Not even after he had a heart attack at a Redskins football game in 2002. He said that the chest pains started before the game. The real culprit was his diabetes.
I don't understand the passion people have for sports, but I recommend that forgiveness is good because hating another person for more than 20 years is a waste of energy. Time to release that hatred and heal. You'll feel better for it, and that's the truth.

Looks Like Everything at BostonNow's Site is Now Gone!
My old Uncommon Bostonian Blog and all the other Blogs are history!
Sad to see everything at the Boston Now newspaper's website is gone. All we have are the memories. The economic situation is this country is bad. What happened to Boston Now this week is just an example of that.
With a lot of homes going into foreclosure and food and gas prices going through the roof, it makes me wonder what's happening to America. The future is unknown at this point.
No wonder I want to vote for Hillary Clinton.

Tax Day
This is what I wanted to post Sunday night at the old UB Blog.
Tax Day is almost here. That day this year is Tuesday, April 15. Whenever the tax deadline landed on the same Monday as Patriots Day, there was an extra day for filing. However, Patriots Day 2008 is on April 21. Time is running out.
Contact the Internal Revenue Service and the Massachusetts Department of Revenue for extension forms and file them by midnight Tuesday if you don't have all your W-2 forms and other required tax documents that you have to file with your tax returns. If you are expecting a refund, apply for the direct deposit option on your returns because it's a lot quicker to get your money.
I'm saying this because I used to work for the IRS. The office I used to work in was located in the John F Kennedy Federal Building at Government Center (for a few years it was located in the offices above Copley Place Shopping mall during the mid-1990s). I worked there from 1987 to 2000. It was most dysfunctional office I ever worked in. Some of the managers and co-workers were abusive towards me.
Here's one story I'll share:
Ond morning in 1997, I was on the phone with talking to a customer about his tax problems. One of my co-workers stood right behind me talking very loud to another co-worker making it difficult for me and my customer to hear ourselves. After I put my customer on hold, I asked him to be quiet or go somewhere else to talk.
My co-worker turned around and shouted at me, "Shut up! You have no business sitting here!"
"Don't talk to me that way or I'll get my manager over here!" I shouted back.
"I don't care what you do!" he yelled.
"Okay! I'll be right be back!" I yelled back.
I got and walked over to my manager's cubicle. When she saw me, she got mad.
"What the hell are you doing off the phone and not at your desk!" She shouted.
I told her the situation with my co-worker. She walked back to my desk with me and had an argument with my co-worker. It lasted five minutes before I could get back on the phone and help my customer.
Why was my co-worker so mad at me? He didn't like where I was sitting even though my desk that was just like all the other desks in the office and was situated in one corner of the office. To this day, I still think that my co-worker was just a nutcase.
I would like to write a memoir about my experiences there. I only hope that Governor Deval Patrick can help me shop my book proposal around New York and find the right literary agent. I'll bet my former co-workers will be shocked to learn that I have Asperger's Syndrome. I was diagnosed two years after I left the IRS.

Resurrection Day Sounds Better than Tax Day
Welcome to the New Uncommon Bostonian Blog!
The original Uncommon Bostonian Blog was connected to the now defunct newspaper called Boston Now. It folded yesterday. I decided to keep going with this second blog of mine. My other blog is called Outside In, which I use to raise autism awareness and write about things that are close to my heart and soul. I've been writing in that for almost three years.
So, today is April 15, the Resurrection Day of my Uncommon Bostonian Blog. Doing an AOL journal is lot more fun than the website software Boston Now had. You couldn't do much with the style and format over there.
It's kind of ironic to re-start my second blog on Tax Day. I was for many years an employee of the Internal Revenue Service. I was so glad that I left back in 2000. Then, two years later, I find out that I have Asperger's Syndrome, a form of autism.
Right now, I have to set a few things up for this blog like the color scheme, links, etc. There is stuff I wanted to write about on Sunday on the old blog, but I couldn't do it because the newspaper was shutting down.
I sure hope I can find another newspaper that will print highlights from this blog.
I just checked the link to the old Uncommon Bostonian Blog at the Boston Now website. It's still there right now, but I don't know for how long.
